The Second Week of Rehersal Log/#16

During the course of rehearsal in the second week, the progress we made looks good. We've done the first run-through of our scene, analysis of different emotions within lines, and the memorization of the script. Having done of these, the rehearsal of our group has almost succeeded. The very important thing left for us to do is to memorize the lines we have.

The first day of the week was a first run-through of our scene. According to the comments written by other classmates, i found that our group went too fast while doing the frun-through. All of us need to slow down and to emphasize important words of phrases. For Lady Capulet, more specifically, the major problem of my character is I didnt control really good in the expression of the emotions and my movings. Movings can help express emotions most of the time. My movings during the run-through seemed a little chaotic. And this made the audience feel confused about what my character is going to do. In order to cooperate with our speaking, I think the nest step of the rehearsal of this week helped a lot with it.

The analysis of emotions within lines illustrates how important it is to dig deeply into a character's mind to explore his or her emotions in a specific scene. There can be several different emotions in a simple monologue, producing a complexity of a character's personality. For example, during a monoglogue of Lady Capulet's, there is a transition of emotions from patient and happy to mad. To make sure I perform it well, it's essential to add moving actions into it because they help explain why an character changes the mood under a specific situation. Also, sometimes only a word can express strong emotion, and so what i need to to is to consider about how to emphasize this word to make the expression clear and impressive..

The next day was a class of memorization. I tried to memorize as much as i can during the class with my group members. At first, we practiced our muscle memorization-to write down our lines on a paper or on white board. Then we gathered and checked each other to recite the lines as fluently as possible. It was not a easy job because all of us had plenty lines with weird ancient English words which were hard to pronounce and memorize. Fortunately we had already gone through those words and phrases, so we didn't have to worry about them. However, we didn't go through all the lines because neither of us could memorize all of them within 45 minutes.

On Friday, i continued working on memorization and checked with my partner, Betty. We checked with each other's lines to see if there were any words that we missed or added unnecessarily. To avoid these mistakes, sometimes we had to practice one line for may times. After all, i think we did well in memorization. And I am prepared to meet with my group members to run through the whole scene next week.
