Analysis of my character of Lady Capulet/#14

According to the whole play of Romeo and Juliet, Lady Capulet can be best described as a rich woman who satisfies herself with prestige and social status. And she is also a quick-tempered person who cares a lot about appearances rather than her daughter's feelings.

As for playing a role as Lady Capulet in Act 3 Scene 5, I have to recognize and be awared of her distinct characteristics. In the Scene that I am going to play, Lady Capulet has to tell her daughter about the coming wedding after having a delighted discussion with Lord Capulet and Paris. Lady Capulet does so because she thinks she at least has the responsibility to have a talk with Juliet and sees if her daughter feels better about Tybalt's death. But the most important purpose for Lady Capulet to visit Juliet is that she wants to persuade Juliet to obey her parents' will no matter how will Juliet feel about it. Wedding, however, is always a joyful word. Lady Capulet looks very happy when she enters to the scene and greets her daughter cheerfully. After recognizing that Juliet is not in a very good mood, Lady Capulet tries to comfort her, preparing to tell her the weeding news. But after a while Lady Capulet has already got impatient with her daughter, though she is mad at Romeo as well. After knowing that Juliet strongly refuses to marry Paris, which disobeys Lady Capulet's will, she simply gives up talking to Juliet and asks Lord Capulet to come talk to her. In the script of my scene, the Nurse's lines which protects Juliet from Lord Capulet has given to Lady Capulet because I want to show a more complex character instead of simply revealing about her obvious personalities. A complicated and contradictory character is closer to a real "human". We can't simply say a word about a person's feature because everyone has different faces. In this scene I want to show that Lady Capulet is not only a practical woman, caring about Paris's good background and ignoring her daughter's mood, but also a mother.

In order to express this complex personality better, I need to imagine that what I will say with what emotion as a practical woman and mother. Using Meisner's Technique is a good way to practice. I need to "get out of my head" and then react to the changing surroundings instinctively without any consideration. Only by this way can I play a more truthful character rather than letting the audience know that I am acting. Gestures and eye contacts also help complete a character. For Lady Capulet's practical feature, I think the luxury costume would also helps prove. But what's more important is still how I am going to express Lady Capulet's emotion and personalities. So I would focus more on practicing this.
