Hamlet Scene Analysis/#2
Q: What is the most interesting scene (in your opinion) in the play and why? What happens in that scene to make it memorable? What emotions does it elicit and why? Answer in a detailed paragraph and post on your blog.
A:
The most interesting and impressive part of Hamlet in my viewpoint is when Hamlet encounters his father's ghost and then becomes determined to avenge. This part takes place in the early place of the whole play. It's not as important and famous as Hamlet's soliloquy "to be or not to be" but is also essential enough to be considered as a turning point. After the king"s death, Hamlet experiences a huge change that, which makes him so despaired and angry, his mother, the queen, remarries the king's brother after he takes the crown and becomes a new king of Denmark. I don't know what other people in the story think about this marriage, but I'm clear that Hamlet see it as an incest. He thinks it incredible for the queen to marry his uncle only two months after the old king's death. Hamelt definitely is angry but he feels useless to do anything. He even tries to kill himself on the base that he can do nothing to make his situation better. However, after encountering the King's ghost in the forest and knowing about the truth if his father's death, Hamlet is encouraged by the ghost and decides to avenge.
I think it interesting becasuse it's a little weird that a man can change his mind by a ghost's words. How can a young man change his mood from despairing and hopeless to angry and determined? The King's ghost absolutely plays an important role of the play and is also essential to Hamlet this character. It's a turning point in the play because it decides Hamlet's behavior. During the ghost's speech I can feel the emotion of angry, regretful and Hamlet's surprised and radical feelings. Without the ghost, Hamlet will never begin avenging. He may suicide instead. There are also a lot of solo monologues in this part which can show Hamelt's emotions under different conditions. These are the reasons why I think this part interesting.
